Tracy K. Teal, PhD has been at the forefront of open source software and data science, working as a developer, instructor, and leader throughout her career. She’s currently the Open Source Program Director at Nixtla where they research and develop generative AI models and open source software for time-series forecasting. She was previously the Open Source Program Director at Posit/RStudio, and Executive Director of The Carpentries and a founder of Data Carpentry. She developed bioinformatics software as an Assistant Professor at Michigan State University and holds a PhD in Computation and Neural Systems from California Institute of Technology. Dr. Teal is passionate about broadening access and developing systems and structures that scale and foster inclusion. Through her workshops, keynotes at international conferences, and organizational leadership, she has taught 1000s of people how to get started with data science, teach technology more inclusively, and become better human-centered leaders.
